Intrinsically Safe
Intrinsic safety (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas by limiting the energy available for ignition.
I.S. Zones require:
- Intrinsically safe components (with certified system drawings and certificates). IS components require internal capacitance that may not be high enough to cause an ignition, and components that must stay cool enough not to ignite the gases, both in normal mode as well as in fault or alarm conditions.
- Approved zener (galvanic) barriers
Please note IS devices are special order and subject to longer delivery lead times than standard equipment.
